The event will provide basic swim safety education as summer nears
Rockwall, TX – May 2026 – The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas is offering FREE swim skills assessments at select pools throughout North Texas during Memorial Day weekend. The assessment includes vital water safety education focused on real-life scenarios with a certified instructor, practical tips on how to create a safer pool environment for young children, a brief hands-on lesson in self-rescue, and personalized next steps for families to enroll in formal swim lessons.
Parents and guardians will also receive a family pledge card with an official water watcher tag, an indicator that reminds the wearer and those around them that they’re on child watch duty. Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death for children ages 1–4 in the U.S. The swim assessment will help provide foundational knowledge to decrease the chance of accidental drowning.
Individuals must register online as there are limited spots available.
