On Tuesday, May 19th, 2020, Doyal DeOlia Miller was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven, at the age of 85. Doyal was born to James Russell and Velma Carlee Miller on September 7, 1934 in Lindale, Georgia. Doyal served in the Army for 6 years. Doyal and Betty were introduced to each other as pen pals, by his brother James and his wife Peggy, who just happened to be Betty’s best friend. Doyal came to Texas on leave to see his brother & to meet the lovely girl he had been exchanging letters with. Betty had been very sick with the Hong Kong Flu when he arrived and just showed up at her front door. She has always said that she opened the door and there Doyal stood, with the biggest grin on his face. She was so embarrassed about how she looked from being so sick, she immediately shut the door. That meeting was in September of 1957 and they were married On January 3, 1958.

Betty Ann Thornton has always been the love of his life. And their marriage was blessed with 2 lovely daughters, Kimberly Ann and Cynthia Nan. Doyal was a devout Christian, a devoted husband, and the most wonderful Dad and Papaw in the world. He was a “man of few words”, but kind to all who knew him. Working most of his adult life as a skillful mechanic, his passion for cars was matched only by his love of classic westerns (or “shoot ’em ups”). He was a firm believer in a hard day’s work and loved to be active, out in his yard, tackling different projects every week. He was also a keen observer of the world around him, ready to discuss important topics, from the local weather to global affairs. Not always so serious, he was loved for his charming sense of humor, amusing stories, and readiness to share in a good hearty chuckle.

Doyal joins his parents, James & Velma Miller, and his 3 brothers & 3 sisters, in Heaven. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Ann, his sisters, Patsy Ruth Reynolds & Gloria Faye Woodruff along with his children, Kimberly Ann Yager & son-in-law, Martin David Yager, Cynthia Nan Butters and son-in-law Stuart M. Butters. He was also blessed with 3 lovely grandchildren, Christopher Burton Doyal Wojan & his wife Jennifer Nicole, Nathan Matthew Bowers, and Katheryn Elizabeth Yager There are numerous nieces and nephews, in Texas, Alabama, Arizona, Tennessee & England.

“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
