Gov. Abbott hints alcohol-to-go sales may be permanent

On Monday, Governor Greg Abbott announced that beginning Friday, May 1, restaurants, movie theaters, stores and malls may open at 25% capacity.

Last month, Abbott directed the TABC to waive their regulations to allow alcohol-to-go sales “in response to the financial hardship caused by COVID-19 that has disproportionately affected the hospitality industry.”

According to their website, “restaurants may also continue to use expanded to-go and delivery options” that were put in place after stay home orders were issued.

No end date has been set for the current arrangement.

“TABC staff is reviewing the governor’s report and working with his office to seek further guidance on the specifics of the plan. We will continue updating this page with directives that will help businesses reopen safely under Gov. Abbott’s new executive order,” TABC states on its website.
