Rowlett, TX – May 2026 – On Thursday, May 14, the Rowlett City Council took action. During a special meeting, the Mayor and every council member committed publicly to a clear path forward on the City’s most pressing leadership priorities, including the City Manager and Fire Chief selection processes.

The Council announced the following actions:

  • The search for a City Manager will be discussed at the May 18th work session, with the Council expecting to move quickly to engage a search firm.
  • An independent consultant will conduct a management review of the Rowlett Fire Department, interviewing personnel across all ranks and tenure levels to identify desired characteristics and skills for the Fire Chief and to refine the recruitment process.
  • A public forum will be scheduled following the completion of the City’s community survey, providing residents with an open opportunity to engage with City leadership.
  • The Council has committed to work closely with the Interim City Manager to improve communication and maintain alignment.

“Listening cannot simply be something we say, but it must be accompanied by action,” the statement read. The Council committed to a Fire Chief selection process that gives the department a meaningful opportunity to be heard through an independent review.
