Rockwall, TX – January 23, 2026 – The Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office will host a free CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) training course for the public on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Rockwall County Annex Building, Multi-Purpose Room, located at 1101 E. Yellow Jacket Lane, Rockwall, Texas.

CRASE training is designed to empower civilians with practical, life-saving strategies to respond during an active shooter situation. The course teaches the nationally recognized Avoid, Deny, Defend methodology developed by ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) and focuses on helping participants understand how to apply these concepts during real-world emergencies.

  • Avoid – Starts with awareness and mindset
  • Deny – Actions to take when escape is difficult or impossible
  • Defend – Understanding the right to protect yourself if necessary

The training is open to the public and free of charge.

The Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office previously hosted CRASE training in June 2025, which saw strong attendance and positive feedback from the community. That event’s success was largely attributed to community engagement and media awareness, prompting the Sheriff’s Office to offer the training again.

“This course provides civilians with knowledge that could save lives,” said Sergeant Phillip Wilburn of the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office. “Preparedness and awareness are critical, and we encourage residents to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Community members are encouraged to attend and share the event with family, friends, and coworkers. A QR code on the event flyer provides additional information and registration details.
