Philip “Phil” Stokes, age 72, of Caddo Mills, TX, passed away on January 23, 2022. He was born February 10, 1949, in Kosciusko, MS, to Thomas Jefferson Stokes and Mary Swayze Powell.

I called him my Handsome Cowboy. He would smile and say, “Who are you talking about?” He kept saying ” How did I get so lucky?” I’d tell him we were blessed and he would agree! He would make me laugh by doing something silly…like a funny dance or corny joke. We loved listening to classic country music everywhere we went and on all those country roads looking for that perfect house together until we found the perfect place in Weatherford. We couldn’t wait to start our lives together there.

He loved all of his family and his friends so much. He loved working with Nik out in the shop helping with projects. He admired the man Nik had become: husband to Melissa and father to Reid and Dayton. He loved Kristen and her choice to become a nurse. He was so happy for her and Adrian when they had Aria. He loved going to the beach every year with family, which he had been doing for many, many years.

He would tell me of the fun times he had with his many coworkers through the years and the many jobs he had — from being a youth minister, driving a semi-truck, to transporting over a million dollars of bonds by plane from Ft Worth to New York and to being a compliance cop at New York Life insurance.

I think the most fun he had was being a member of the Texas Tin Horns. He loved getting together dressed like a cowboy of the old days and competing.

He is leaving a huge hole in our hearts. He was a good, kind, loving man and Jesus was and is his Savior. He is in no more pain and he is resting in the arms of our Lord.

Phil is survived by his wife of two and a half years: Karen Stokes; son: Nikolas Stokes and wife
Melissa; daughter: Kristen Castillo and husband Adrian; grandchildren: Dayton, Reid, and Aria;
and siblings: Margaret Davis and husband Kim, and Molly Manson and husband Paul. He was
preceded in death by his brother: Richard Stokes; and his parents.

A celebration of Phil’s life will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Reflections at
Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Location.
