Anthony “Tony” Dukes Gipson, age 63, and a 30-year resident of Rockwall, TX, passed away December 11, 2021. He was born July 8, 1958, in Jackson, MS, to James Cordas and Charlotte Melba Dukes Gipson. Tony attended the University of Mississippi, “Ole Miss”, and graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Public Administration degree. He moved to Dallas that same year and joined the Dallas Police Department, where he graduated first in Academy Class 163. Tony spent eight years at Southeast Patrol Division before transferring in 1988 to the Narcotics Division, where he spent the remainder of his career. He retired in 2016 after 36 years of service. Tony’s manner of speaking and humbleness belied his intelligence and intense desire to perform his duties well.

In 1990, Tony married Joyce Ellen Gipson, who he was dedicated to for 31 years. He had a special affinity for neglected animals, as does Joyce, so those animals were always a part of their lives. He was known as a genuine good guy – funny, smart, kind and loyal – and he is already greatly missed.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 31 years: Joyce Gipson; and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Jim Gipson of Houston, TX, and Phil Gipson of Vicksburg, MS; and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Rockwall, preceded by a visitation beginning at 10:00am. Following the services, a memorial luncheon will take place at the Rockwall Hilton Lakefront Hotel. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Assist the Officer Foundation, 1412 Griffin St E, Dallas, Texas 75215 or at www.atodallas.org/donate
