Paulet Del Castillo, a Rockwall High School freshman, will be appearing in the ABC sitcom Mixed-ish, which premiered September 24.
Mixed-ish is based on the story of Rainbow Johnson, who recounts her experience growing up in a mixed-race family in the ’80s, and the constant dilemmas they had to face over whether to assimilate or stay true to themselves.
Paulet plays Rainbow’s childhood friend, Micaela.
“Paulet knew she wanted to be an actress ever since she was seven years old when she was in her first play, Oliver, at the Rockwall Community Playhouse,” said Elena Del Castillo, Paulet’s mother.
Paulet received the audition for this project through her agent, and after two taped auditions, her taped audition was sent to ABC Network for approval. The next day Paulet received an offer.
Laura Garcia, Paulet’s middle school theater teacher at Williams Middle School, recalls one particular school performance where Paulet played Abigail in The Crucible.
“I remember watching her work in the scene where the girls all see a bird on the beams of the courthouse,” said Garcia, “and she really gave me chills at how quickly she went from a normal child to a crazed deviant determined to convince the court that someone was a witch.”
Mixed-ish premiered September 24 on ABC and Paulet’s first appearance will be in the second episode which it will air October 1. She will appear in episodes 2-6 and 8 so far, although she expected to be in many more episodes.
“I can’t say enough about her talent, but one thing I would like to say about Paulet is how humble she is about all of this,” said Garcia. “I am constantly amazed at how all this is happening, and she still just wants to be a normal teenager and hang out with her friends. I love that about her.”
