Robert “Bob” McIver, age 79 of Garland, TX, passed away July 31, 2020. He was born June 19, 1941, in Slocum, TX, to J.C. and Dell McIver. Bob graduated from Elkhart High School in 1959. He served in the United States Air Force and after an honorable discharge, he began a long career with AT&T longlines, engineering, and sales. Bob graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a Bachelor’s degree in 1993 and a Master’s in Business Administration in 1995. He retired from AT&T in 1996.

Bob was an active and dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Garland. He was an active and involved member of Optimist International for 48 years, serving the community and youth. He was involved in the Descendants of Mexican War Veterans Organization for 17 years. In his retirement years, he enjoyed learning the skill of wood carving and being involved in the North Texas Woodcarvers Guild. Bob loved photography, camping, fishing, bird watching, and caring for his many fur babies.

Bob is survived by his wife: Joe Ann McIver of Garland, TX; daughter: Sonya Elizabeth McIver of Garland, TX; daughter and son-in-law: Kathryn and Jeff Anthony of Arlington, TX; grandchildren: Hannah, Nick, Gabe, and Makayla Anthony; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Junior McIver, and sister Joann Steadman all of Elkhart, TX.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Friday, August 7, 2020, at Smyrna Church Cemetery in Emory, TX. The family will gather with friends at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rowlett Location Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Social distancing will be practiced at the funeral home and face masks required.
