Adios Fajitas 445 E Interstate 30 Rockwall, Texas 75087
Short Version
This place serves some of the best fajitas I have ever had, period. Everyone I interacted with was friendly, upbeat, and super nice! The portions are larger than expected, the flavors are exceptional, and the food quality is top tier. It is a bit higher than your standard fajitas, but it will spoil you and have you wanting more. Definity worth the trip, just plan on spending a bit more for the higher quality products!Â
Long Version
Like Nearly every other person on Earth, I love fajitas! I used to go to a place in Mesquite called Jalapeno Tree because they had this amazing garlic butter they served with their fajitas. Ever since the first time I ate there 15 years ago, I started making my own garlic herb butter for my fajitas at home. It is a game changer. Even when I order fajitas to go from anywhere else or make them from scratch, you will find me whippin’ up some garlic herb butter for the fajitas. It just adds that little bit of extra love and goodness to them that makes this big man smile with every bite! Well, Adios has fajita butter, which is so darn good! I mean, I could melt and pour that stuff over cereal, and it would be amazing! I was super hungry and placed an order for pickup.
Now in true Nick fashion, I way way way, have I mentioned WAY over ordered. I had been working on my house all day and worked up a hunger that had me convinced I could eat a small elephant with ease. You know the saying, never go shopping when you are hungry. Ill break down what we ordered, and provide an opinion on each item.
The process was upper simple. I logged onto their website and placed an order for pickup. When I walked in, the whole place was very clean and well-lit. There are some loud vibrant colors everywhere, with some cool graphite over the entry door, and a long horn mounted on the wall. Â I was greeted the moment my foot passed the threshold with upbeat employees and big smiles. I walked up and let them know I was there for a pickup order. I forgot the employee’s name, and normally, I make notes, but she was amazing, and I completely forgot to even ask her name.
As soon as she looked at my order in the system, she said it would just be another minute as they were grabbing my drinks from the freezer so they stayed cold, and everything else was ready. She offered me a sample of their frozen margaritas while I waited, so of course, I could not turn that down. I tried the seasonal rita, and it was fantastic! Seeing my expression after trying it, she immediately went in for the up-sale and sold me a 16oz Seasonal Rita to go. She’s a keeper for sure cause she increased their revenue by 10% right there. Not many people are so casually able to work in that polite suggestion of, hey buy more stuff while you wait, and she did it flawlessly. So, be warned, you may leave with more than you bargained for!
Okay, now the food.Â
Adios Fajitas Butter sauce – 4 oz $ Foamy Spicy Garlicy Butter Dipping Sauce
I covered this above, but to state it again, this stuff is liquid gold with a suttle garlic flavor and if you let it sit at room temperature for a bit, it will harden up just like butter. No oils or anything else seemed to be present. A little goes a LONG way, so keep that in mind.
Loaded Queso – Half Pint – $10 Melted blend of American and Mexican cheese with roasted jalapenos, onions and spices
This queso is good. Loaded with everything that makes queso good and it was so creamy and thick. For me, one of the things I am looking for in a good queso is a nice thick coverage of my chip. I do not like runny, watery queso, and this stuff was nearly perfect!
Guacamole 4oz – $3 – Made with Hass avocados, onion, serrano peppers, cilantro, lime juice, and spicesÂ
You can tell this was freshly made from avocados that day. Creamy, ripe avocados that created a smooth creamy dip that we all crave! It could have used a touch more garlic and some spice for my taste, so I dripped in some of their butter sauce and some Cheyanne pepper, and it was perfect, well at least to me! Everyone has a bit different taste they are looking for in their guacamole but this was so good as it was. Maybe it was the amount of their butter sauce I was using on everything else that made me want to add it to the guacamole.
Empanadas (4 per order) $14 – 4 Crispy Flaky Pastry filled with Ground Beef, Potatoes, Onion, Carrot and spices served with our Creamy Jalapeno Dip
I was concerned these would be soggy by the time I got home. It was 30 minutes before we ate, and somehow, they were still crispy! Flavors are great, and they are a nice sized empanada. They were not greasy in any way, and that has been a huge issue with a lot of my to go food as of late, it always seems to be greasier than when I dine in. Not sure how that works, but that was not a problem with these. Of the four of my empanadas, 1 had had about half the amount of filling as the others, but that’s fine. The flavors were great.
All Chicken Fajitas – Medium – $31 Feeds 1 to 2 people. 10oz Chargrilled Chicken Fajitas. Served with Grilled Onions, Jalapenos, Mexican Rice, Refried Beans, Guac, Shredded Cheese, Sour Cream, Pico de Gallo, Flour or Corn Tortillas, Chips & Salsa. Serves 1-2 People.
Sadly, I am allergic to chicken and did not get to try these. Though they looked amazing. Great char on the outside, and they smelled divine! Both my wife and daughter said they were good. They described them as tender, juicy, flavorful, and well-seasoned. My daughter liked the chicken better than the steak. My wife rarely eats chicken when we go out because it is always over cooked. My wife said that she will only eat the Chicken fajitas from here going forward, and not the beef. Reasons are covered below in the beef fajitas.
All Beef Fajitas – Large – $72 – Feeds 2 to 3 people. 1 lb. Chargrilled Texas Wagyu Beef Fajitas. Served with Grilled Onions, Jalapenos, Mexican Rice, Refried Beans, Guac, Shredded Cheese, Sour Cream, Pico de Gallo, Flour or Corn Tortillas, Chips & Salsa. Serves 2-3 People.
These were very solid beef fajitas. The quality of meat they use shines through and is very noticeable. The meat is super tender (when not over cooked) and has a very prominent beef flavor that comes through. The cook consistency was not really there unfortunately on this order. There was an assortment of doneness to the beef from being cooked to well done all the way down to just under medium, or as some call it, medium rare plus.
The pieces that were cooked to medium were the best all around. The range of cooking on such a delicate piece of meat gave a range eating experience. Â The pieces that were on the medium side were where the most enjoyable. I was able to bite cleanly through while in a tortilla and they had tender juicy mouth feel. The pieces that were on the well-done side of things left me to struggle a bit to bite through and not pull the whole piece of meat out of the tortilla because it was a bit tough. Consistency will be key here and if they can dial that into a consistent cook doneness and keep them in that medium range, I would enjoy them much more. I wonder if they could offer a normal and a well-done option for the beef. Being a high dollar cut of beef, I can see most people wanting the medium style over the well done. Though we do have those people that put ketchup on a well-done steak, so who knows.
Churros Plain – $6 – Mexican Fried Dough Sticks coated in Cinnamon Sugar
I ordered these with the chocolate sauce. These were a bit smaller than I was expecting, but at the same time, after eating as much as we did, we could barely fit them. It was nearly 90 minutes after we ordered before we got to eat them. So, they had gotten a bit chewy from sitting out, but they were still good. The chocolate sauce is rich and a nice dark chocolate flavor. They were seasoned very well with cinnamon sugar and the dough was sweet.
Like I said, I way over ordered. We ended up eating fajitas with al the sides for 3 more meals. I am an idiot sometimes, and clearly need to stop ordering food when I am so hungry. I am not mad though, because everything tasted just as good warmed up as it did fresh, so that’s a huge bonus!
Also, by the time I wrote this, I already ordered from them again for a delivery order. This time, all the beef was cooked to medium well, constant throughout and still had an amazing texture. The people I was feeding all said it was amazing, so that’s a plus. They hit the constancy on this order, so maybe that first time was just a fluke? Any ways, thanks again for reading, I truly appreciate it. See you around town!
