Edo Japan – Sushi $ Steakhouse
1067 I-30 Frontage Rd #109, Rockwall, TX 75087
Short Version:
It’s easily accessible with great food options, good services with good selection and great pricing. Where you won’t be sorry if you stop in, portions are ample. This place is worth the visit even if you must walk 200 feet from the nearest parking spot
Long Version:
Located on the service road of I30 in Rockwall, in the retail district nestled in the corner of a strip mall. In the same area that Best Buy and Dicks sporting goods reside. Â Edo Japan is in a very unassuming location for some very nice culinary options. The biggest drawback for this place is the parking. When we went, we had to park around the corner and then if it’s in poor weather you can find yourself walking 200 feet to the nearest parking spot.
Covered in dark windows, you do not get a grasp for the size of the place until you walk in the front doors. You then realize, that even with a packed parking lot, this place only had 8 other tables sitting down to eat. So, don’t let the fact the parking lot is packed, be a deterrent, as, there just is not enough parking to facilitate all the businesses right here.
When we walked in, we were immediately greeted with warm smile and cheerful greeting from the hostess. I believe her name is Rylie, sorry if the spelling is off. Younger lady, cheerful, upbeat and very kind. She was standing behind a counter, that housed a small refrigerator section that is filled with imported bottled drinks. They were all clean and neat, and it was fully stocked. Many times, the little areas like this are often neglected and have built up dust, and disheveled bottles, so, it was worth noting how well stocked and clean the area was.

Rylie then proceeded to walk us to our booth, she let us know our server would be by shortly to help us. I am pretty sure his name was Alex. Younger guy with glasses. He was very kind, and helpful. He seemed a bit nervous but was a great server. Checked on us, drinks were always full, and he even brought extra napkins at the start and that always is a Win for me!
We spent a good long while as we perused the menu, there were so many options we because a bit overwhelmed. We had decision paralysis because everything sounded good. Where we were sitting, was the back corner near the kitchen and the sushi chefs. It was really neat to sit and watch the chefs make all the rolls as they were ordered. After we spent about 20 minutes going over the menu, we finally made our selections. I will share what we had for dinner below, and rate what I am able.
Appetizer
Spicy Garlic Edamame $7
Sautéed soybean with spicy garlic sauce
These were good, portions are a decent as there were 26 total soybeans that came with our order. Now, I am not saying they all come with 26 or that is the normal amount, just that is what we were served.
Dinner
Chicken Karaage Bento Box $16
Deep fried white mean chicken. Served with Miso soup, green salad, 4 pcs California Roll, Rice and Vegetable tempura.

This was such an amazing purchase. My 15-year-old daughter ordered this and there was so much feed she took half of it home. For the price, I was not upset one bit. She said everything was cooked well and tasted great. She had zero complaints and that means something to me. She usually has a thing or two to share, but she was happy all around here.
Â
Hibachi Chicken Teriyaki $18
Served with clear soup, ginger salad, sautéed vegetables, hibachi noodles and white rice. Fried rice optional for an additional $2

This was more then enough food for my wife to eat, and she ended up taking some home. The ginger dressing on the salad was not skimped on, they doused the lettuce with it! Portions were heavy for everything. My wife and I could have split the meal. She said that the chicken was cooked perfect, not dry, and was coated really well in the teriyaki flavor. She would order again. All the chicken was cut up into little half in sized cubes, so cooking was easy to keep uniform. Sold meal with solid flavor, she was not disappointed.
Salmon Roll $6.25 Salmon inside rice
This was, as it states, a simple salmon roll. The fish was tender and fresh with a clean ending. I am always pleased when I can enjoy sushi and not be left with that old fish flavor. Sadly, that has happened far too often in many places in the area.
Hot Tea $4
This small tea pot is dropped off at your table, with about 16 ounces of hot water and a tea bag. I think that charging $4 is a bit of a reach, especially when you get free refills on all cokes and Iced Tea for only $3. That tea bag does not justify the cost in my eyes.
The only other issue I noted was an interaction that felt a bit awkward. While we were dining, I noticed a server—who was not assigned to our table—frequently stepping into conversations at nearby tables, including ours, in a way that seemed unnecessary. At one point, as the hostess stopped by to check on us, the server interrupted our conversation, creating an odd moment of silence. It may have been unintentional, but it felt a little out of place.
Outside of that server, the price of the hot tea, and parking there is not a single thing to complain about. Also, a huge shoutout to the hostess for being so friendly and stopping by to check on us from time to time. She is a keeper for sure.
