Royse City man arrested, charged with murder

Corey Wayne Griffin of Royse City was arrested and charged with murder after his estranged wife was found deceased during a welfare check in the 2500 block of Perdenales Drive.

Upon a search of the home, the body of a deceased female, identified as 37-year-old Chelsea Loren Griffin was discovered in the kitchen of the home.

On February 16, 2023, at 12:08 PM, the Royse City Police Department responded to a residence in the 2500 block of Perdenales Drive on a welfare check. Upon entering the home, officers immediately noticed signs of a struggle such as broken glass and overturned furniture.

During the course of the investigation, officers were able to identify, Corey Wayne Griffin has a suspect in the homicide. Corey Griffin was the estranged husband of Chelsea Griffin.

Corey Griffin was soon located in Rockwall and arrested. Corey Griffin was taken to the Rockwall County Detention Center and is being held on the charge of Murder, a First-Degree Felony.

Royse City Police Department reported that while officers were attempting to secure the scene, they received information that a someone was trying to check the victim’s children out of their schools.

Royse City Police Department requested that the school district restrict access to their campuses until we could determine more information. The school district went into a soft lockdown where visitors were not allowed on campus.

On February 8, the suspect was arrested and charged with harassment. According to records, he was released on bond the same day.
