Bettye Sue Bowen Hollingsworth passed peacefully on April 23, 2022, at Faith Presbyterian Hospice Center in Dallas. She was 97 years of age. Born in Fate, TX, she was a proud graduate of Rockwall High School Class of 1941. Professionally, a secretary at Sun Oil Company for more than 15 years, she enjoyed crafts, Mah-Jongg, reading, bird watching, gardening and travel. Before moving to be near her daughter, she was an active member of The Howard Taylor Class at First United Methodist Church in Garland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Hollingsworth, her parents, T.B. and Florence Hartman Bowen, and her siblings Hazel Snow, Horace Bowen, great-niece, Becca Bowen Rangel, and great-nephew, Randy Snow.
Survivors include daughter, Sharon Murphy Southern, nieces and nephews, Tom Snow (Rose), Pat Hairston (David), Horace “Ace” Bowen (Judi), Craig Hollingsworth (Tobi), Chris Hollingsworth (Yolanda), Collin Hollingsworth (Karen), Caren Hollingsworth Crandall (Bruce), Johnny Tharp (June), and Richard Tharp (Kathy). Bettye was very thankful for the visits, kindness, and comfort in her later years provided by her great-nieces, Jenny Sperry (David), Molly Akin (Craig), and Lauri Trammell (Kyle).
We will miss her thoughtfulness, care, concern, strength, and sense of humor. Most of all, we will miss her love.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
