For the past 365 days, Rockwall resident Stavros Kaplaneris has made one simple promise to himself: show up.
Every day since August 2025, Kaplaneris has completed a workout, building a streak that has transformed not only his health but his outlook on life. On Friday, Aug. 21, he will celebrate one full year of exercising every day—a milestone he hopes will encourage others to believe that lasting change is possible.
The journey began during one of the most uncertain times in his life. After unexpectedly losing his job, Kaplaneris found himself reevaluating more than just his career. At nearly 300 pounds and with a family history of high blood pressure and heart disease, he realized that if he wanted a different future, he needed to start making different choices.
Rather than focusing on the amount of weight he needed to lose, he chose to focus on something much more manageable: one workout. Then another. And another.

“One day at a time became my mindset,” Kaplaneris said. “Eventually, it became my lifestyle.”
That simple commitment has produced remarkable results. During the past year, Kaplaneris has lost nearly 100 pounds, dramatically improved his overall health, and, for the first time in more than 20 years, no longer requires medication to manage his blood pressure.
While the physical transformation has been significant, he says the greatest victory isn’t measured by a number on the scale.
“This journey has never been about chasing a number on the scale,” Kaplaneris said. “It’s been about becoming the person God created me to be. Every workout was a choice to invest in my future, my family, and my faith. If my story encourages even one person to take that first step, every early morning and every difficult day has been worth it.”
The journey wasn’t without setbacks. During the year, Kaplaneris developed multiple bulging discs that severely aggravated his sciatic nerve. Rather than allowing the injury to derail his progress, he worked with his physician to modify his routine. Swimming became his primary cardio exercise, often requiring him to arrive at the Rockwall YMCA before 5 a.m. to secure a lane, while his strength training at Planet Fitness was adjusted to accommodate his recovery.
Other challenges followed. Winter weather temporarily closed the gym. Summer heat brought days without air conditioning. Illness tested his resolve, and vacations, including a trip to Maui, could have easily interrupted his streak.
Instead, Kaplaneris adapted. When a gym wasn’t available, he walked. When pain limited certain exercises, he found alternatives. His philosophy remained unchanged.
“The goal wasn’t perfection,” he said. “It was consistency.”
That consistency also became a source of accountability. Throughout the year, Kaplaneris documented nearly every workout on social media, not to draw attention to himself, but to encourage others and remind himself of the commitment he had made.
Along the way, fellow gym members became friends, offering encouragement, celebrating milestones together, and creating a community built around healthier living.

Today, Kaplaneris serves as Clinical Director at Vitale Health Clinic, where he helps individuals improve their health through education, lifestyle changes, recovery, and longevity medicine. His own experience, he says, has given him a deeper understanding of the challenges many people face when trying to improve their health.
For him, however, Day 365 is not the finish line. It’s simply the beginning of the next chapter. His focus now is continuing the habits that changed his life while encouraging others to believe that meaningful change doesn’t happen overnight, it happens one decision at a time.
“You don’t have to be perfect,” Kaplaneris said. “You just have to start. One healthy choice today can completely change the course of your life tomorrow.”
Community Celebration
Friends, family, and community members are invited to celebrate Kaplaneris’ milestone on Friday, Aug. 21, at 7 a.m. at Planet Fitness in Rockwall. Guests are welcome to stop by, congratulate him, and celebrate what can happen when someone commits to improving their health one day at a time.
