Rockwall County, TX – May 2026 – The Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents to remain vigilant as scammers continue impersonating law enforcement personnel, court officials, jail staff, and other authorities in an attempt to steal money and personal information.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, scammers are using increasingly aggressive tactics to pressure victims into making immediate payments through gift cards, Cash App, Zelle, cryptocurrency, or other nontraditional payment methods. Officials stress that legitimate law enforcement agencies will never demand payment over the phone or threaten immediate arrest for nonpayment.
The Sheriff’s Office highlighted several common scams currently circulating in the community, including:
- Missed jury duty scams
- Fake bond or bail payment requests
- Inmate emergency money scams
- Fake warrant or court scams
- Impersonation and extortion schemes
- Fake ankle monitor fees
- Fraudulent recovery center or diversion program offers
- Jail communication and phishing scams
Residents are encouraged to watch for several major warning signs, including:
- Demands for immediate payment
- Threats of arrest or legal action
- Requests to remain on the phone
- Instructions to pay using gift cards, Cash App, Zelle, or cryptocurrency
- Caller ID spoofing that makes the call appear official
- High-pressure tactics designed to create fear or panic
The Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office advises residents to hang up immediately if they receive a suspicious call. Individuals should independently verify any claims by contacting the Sheriff’s Office directly using official phone numbers or information published on official government websites.
“It’s OK to verify,” the Sheriff’s Office emphasized in its public advisory. “When in doubt, check it out.”

Residents who believe they may have been targeted by a scam are encouraged to report the incident to local law enforcement authorities.
