Farmers Electric Cooperative Launches Residential Battery Backup Program for Northeast Texas Members

Rockwall, TX – Farmers Electric Cooperative has announced a new partnership with Austin-based Base Power to bring whole-home battery backup systems to eligible members across its service area, including Rockwall County.

The program is the first residential battery partnership of its kind for Farmers Electric and is designed to provide automatic backup power during outages — without the upfront cost typically associated with standby generators.

Under the program, Base Power will manage installation, maintenance, and service of the battery systems. Farmers Electric members can check eligibility now, with installations scheduled to begin in January 2026.

“Farmers is committed to bringing practical solutions to the communities we serve,” said Mark Stubbs, General Manager of Farmers Electric Cooperative. “Partnering with Base Power allows us to offer our members an affordable path to whole-home resiliency while strengthening our system for long-term growth.”

How the Program Works

The residential batteries will provide backup power to participating homes during outages. At the same time, Farmers Electric can utilize the networked battery systems to help manage peak energy demand across the grid.

By reducing strain during high-demand periods, the cooperative aims to improve system reliability while helping keep costs stable for members.

According to Base Power, the broader deployment will add approximately 20 megawatts of dispatchable capacity across the service area over the next year.

“We are excited to welcome Farmers Electric members into a growing community of Texans seeking reliable and affordable backup power,” said Zach Dell, CEO of Base Power. “Our distributed battery platform helps strengthen the grid while protecting households from outages.”

Growing Demand for Energy Resiliency

As the Dallas-Fort Worth region continues to grow, electric cooperatives are exploring new tools to enhance grid stability and prepare for extreme weather events. Residential battery systems offer an alternative to traditional generators, providing automatic, quiet backup power without fuel storage or manual startup.

Farmers Electric serves more than 100,000 meters across Northeast Texas, including communities in Rockwall, Collin, Hunt, Kaufman, and surrounding counties.
