Rockwall, TX – December 2, 2025 –The Rockwall County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) has received a grant of approximately $18,000 from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The LEPC collaborated with local fire departments to assess their needs for responding to hazardous materials (HAZMAT) incidents in their areas. As a result, each fire station will receive a 95-gallon barrel of absorbent pads designed to soak up hazardous substances in the event of a spill.
Additionally, each department will be provided with a kit containing leak sealing plugs and wedges. Furthermore, each department has designated one member to undergo training in the use of the Computer-Aided Management of Emergency Operations (CAMEO) software system. This software will help track the locations of hazardous materials within their jurisdictions and map the routes these materials take. The goal of the training is for the trained member to share their knowledge with other department members, ensuring emergency response personnel have accurate hazardous substance information and helping emergency planners with chemical and all-hazards planning.
