Rockwall, TX – August 16, 2025 – The new Barnes & Noble at the Plaza at Rockwall will host a special nature-themed celebration during its grand opening on Wednesday, August 27, from 6–8 p.m. Acclaimed author Amy Martin, writer of the award-winning Wild DFW: Explore the Amazing Nature Around Dallas-Fort Worth (Timber Press), will be the featured guest, joined by Rockwall’s own nature groups and explorers.
Martin will give a short talk and sign copies of Wild DFW, which recently celebrated its two-year anniversary and has sold more than 6,000 copies across the region. The book was awarded the 2024 Carroll Abbott Memorial Award from the Native Plant Society of Texas and is praised as both an engaging natural history primer and an accessible field guide, with over 350 photographs, 40 maps, and more than 100 species highlighted.

Joining Martin for the Rockwall event are local naturalists and community groups:
- Mick Tune, Dallas Paleontological Society, showcasing fossils discovered at Ladonia Fossil Park.
- Rockwall Butterfly Brigade, sharing insights on pollinator gardens and local butterfly meadows.
- Ted Zobeck, North Texas Master Naturalist, and Heather Bullock, avian biologist and raptor researcher, discussing birding and wildlife in Rockwall.
Martin, a journalist and writer for over 40 years, is also the author of Itchy Business and co-author of Speaking of Mother Earth. She currently serves as senior features writer for Green Source DFW and sits on the Dallas County Open Space Trails and Preserves Program board.
The event offers Rockwall residents the opportunity to discover the rich natural heritage of North Texas while celebrating the arrival of the community’s newest bookstore.
