Rockwall, TX – February 25, 2025 – The Rockwall County Commissioners Court has officially recognized Bob DeJean, a Landscape Architect, Urban Designer, and tireless advocate for open spaces, for his outstanding contributions to the preservation and promotion of Rockwall County’s natural environment.
Bob DeJean, who has lived in Rockwall County since 2008, has played a pivotal role in the development of sustainable land practices and conservation initiatives that have shaped the county’s landscape. His work, including the design of Los Establos, a low-density, nature-friendly development featuring a significant Conservation Easement, sets a high standard for environmentally responsible land development in the region.
As Chair of the Executive Committee for the Rockwall County Open Space Alliance, Bob spearheaded significant efforts in land conservation and has been instrumental in the development of the Rockwall County Open Space Master Plan. His leadership in preserving the county’s natural beauty has been far-reaching, influencing both policy and public opinion.
In addition to his contributions in land development, Bob has worked with other local leaders to form the Rockwall County Open Space Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving open spaces in Rockwall County. His efforts have influenced public policy and contributed to the success of numerous environmental initiatives.
Bob’s impact has also extended to his work as a Professor at The University of Texas at Arlington, where he has inspired and educated the next generation of landscape architects and environmental advocates.
In honor of his retirement in 2024, the Commissioners Court issued a formal proclamation thanking Bob for his dedicated service to Rockwall County. The proclamation recognized his many valuable contributions to the county’s natural environment and his role in preserving its open spaces for future generations.
The recognition ceremony was held on February 25, 2025, with the proclamation signed by the Rockwall County Judge and all County Commissioners.
