Gilbert Ortiz Lara, age 58 of Garland, TX, passed away September 12, 2022. He was born September 8, 1964, in Lubbock, TX, to Lupe and Santos (Ortiz) Lara. Gilbert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He loved his family very much and was very family oriented. He was a hard worker, enjoyed his work, and made his coworkers part of his family. Gilbert was a resident of Garland for 24 years and a faithful member of Lakepointe Church Firewheel. He was a huge Cowboys fan and enjoyed the casino, playing the lottery, and was a loyal bingo player. Gilbert was a loving father and grandfather and a cool father-in-law. He will be dearly missed.
Gilbert is survived by his children: Amanda Lara, Gilbert Lara Jr. and wife Joanna, Miranda Lara, Nicholas Lara, and Dallas Lara; grandchildren: Isaiah Alvarado, Isaac Lara, Alexia Garcia, Elijah Lara, Adalyn Lara, and Josiah Lara; siblings: Mary Alice Otero and husband Robert, Lupe Lara Jr., Stephen Lara, John Lara, Sylvia Alvizo, Joe Lara and wife Jamie; many nieces, nephews, and family friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Sendy Lara.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Rest Haven Funeral Home Rowlett. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pallbearers include Gilbert Lara Jr., Nicholas Lara, Isaiah Alvarado, Gustavo Ceballos Jr., Carlos Lovato, Elijah Lara, Isaac Lara. The family will gather with friends at the funeral home Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
