The 55-foot-tall cowboy known as Big Tex is getting a brand-new set of threads, just in time for the 2022 State Fair of Texas. Say happy trails to his western shirt with its ‘smile’ pockets and two-toned, scalloped front yoke. Big Tex’s brand-new custom-made shirt by Fort Worth-based clothing brand, Dickies, may have some people wishing upon a star – a Lone Star, that is.
Dickies latest design resembles the iconic western wear of years past, but this time around, it includes a blue fabric design with a red point collar, with the word “Dickies” embroidered on both sides and fringe swaying on the bottom of the sleeves. The stars are aligning in this unique design as they fall down the front of the shirt separated by a V-shaped white trim and a red column of diamond-shaped buttons. The shirt also details shotgun cuffs accompanied by more stars and a mini horseshoe on the back of the shirt. Along with the shirt, Big Tex will also be getting a new pair of jeans.
If you have been keeping up with his fashion trends during the Fair, then you know Big Tex receives a new wardrobe every few years. Big Tex stands outdoors for four weeks each year during all kinds of weather conditions. While Big Tex’s Dickies outfits are made of durable materials, Texas weather can be harsh on his clothing.
Like Big Tex, Dickies is deeply rooted in Texas. Dickies has been dressing Texas’ hardest working cowboy for 20 years. At Dickies’ headquarters, a team of designers, pattern makers, and sewing experts takes a total of nine months to design Big Tex’s look and two weeks to sew his final shirt and pants.
Additionally, this year, Dickies is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The Texas-based company has been designing quality clothing for hard-working Americans since 1922. Dickies is commemorating its centennial with a collection of graphics, denim, and matching sets, highlighting where the company has been and where they are going. Big Tex’s denim is modeled after Dickies’ X-Series line of jeans, which anyone can purchase on Dickies.com.
In honor of this year’s theme “Treats of Texas,” fairgoers and the Tex team alike are in for quite a few treats this Fair season. Not only are we celebrating the big guy’s new style but also a major milestone – Big Tex is turning 70 on October 4, 2022. Get ready to blow out the candles and greet Big Tex as we celebrate his historic run at the Fair.
Make sure to check out Big Tex and his new clothes when he returns to his post at Big Tex Circle in Fair Park one week before Opening Day on Friday, September 23. Representatives from Dickies and the State Fair of Texas will be onsite during Big Tex’s installation and available for any media inquiries and interviews.
Mark your calendars for the 2022 State Fair of Texas, running Friday, September 30 through Sunday, October 23 at historic Fair Park in Dallas.
