John “Poppy” Gonzales

John “Poppy” Gonzales, age 66 of Rowlett, TX, passed away October 5, 2021. He was born December 6, 1954, in Ganado, TX, to Nasario and Maria Dolores (Rodriguez) Gonzales. John attended Crossroads Church. He was a people person, funny, kind and generous. He was a family man and loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart and soul. John enjoyed cooking and catering and was highly respected in the food industry around Dallas. He also enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He will be forever missed.

John is survived by his wife of 46 years: Tara Gonzales; son: Eric Gonzales and wife Melissa Beck; daughter: Amanda Hall and husband Daniel; mother: Maria Dolores Watkins; sisters: Susan Licon and husband Joel, Beatrice Gonzales, Ginger Rodriguez; brothers: Daniel Gonzales and wife Jodie, Richard Gonzales; grandchildren: Christian Gonzales and wife Jasmine Estrada, Jayla Hall, Avry Gonzales, Melody Gonzales, Emily Gonzales, Ethan Gonzales, Breanna Torres, Brandon Torres; great grandchildren: Lucas and Logan Gonzales, Jeremiah Horbacz and Leo Gonzales; many “adopted” children and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, brothers Speedy, Oscar and Roger Gonzales, sister Carolina Turner.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Crossroads Church with Jason Collins officiating. Visitation at Rest Haven Funeral Home Rowlett will be Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
