John Ridley Lewis Jr., loving husband, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2020, at age 66. He was born on May 21, 1954, in Abilene, TX to John Ridley Lewis Sr. and Virginia (Minnick) Lewis. On May 23, 1998, he married Dawn Phuong Lewis. John was a faithful and loving husband who was always patient, understanding, and supportive to his dear wife Dawn. He will forever remain in her heart. He was a loving husband, brother, uncle, and son who worked through his sickness with cancer to provide for his loved ones. With his fighting spirit, John was an academic scholar who always strived to broaden his knowledge in many subjects such as: world history, writing, English, and the diverse cultures around the world. He was an open-minded person and was very easy-going to be around. He was also an expert who was skillful with machines and computers. John always loved to learn and had a heart full of compassion for others.
He received his Master of Science Degree in English Rhetoric and TESOL from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2012. He was pursuing his Ph.D. in English at Texas A&M University-Commerce and was expected to graduate in 2022. His ambition was to become an English professor at the university level. John had a passion for teaching English and writing English to his students. John was an ESL teacher at Garland High School, a History and Geography teacher at Garland High School, an English Instructor at East Field College and Richland College, and an Associate Instructor at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
John is survived by his loving wife Dawn Lewis; younger sister: Jennifer King; younger brother: Harry Lewis; and by his aunt: Goldye Wallace. He is preceded in death by his mother: Virginia Lewis and brother: Cary Lewis.
A private memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 17th, 2020 at Reflections at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 2500 State Hwy 66 East in Rockwall, Texas at 1:30 p.m.
