William “Bill” Coons, Jr., age 89, of Rockwall, TX, passed away on November 11, 2019. He was born September 1, 1930, in Gonzales, TX, to Willie Ray Coons, Sr. and Gehla Heye. William was a life-long resident of Port Neches, TX. He was stationed in the Navy during the Korean conflict aboard the USS Oriskany aircraft carrier. William was a graduate of UT Austin. He earned his degree in chemical engineering and became a researcher for Texaco. He had many patents with Texaco before he retired. He met his wife Ola Lee when he visited her parent’s grocery store. William was a member of the United Methodist Men’s Club and Rotary Club. He loved hunting and spending time at his beach house. William was also a horticulturist, Camellia flowers were his favorite. He loved his family dearly. He will be missed deeply.

William is survived by his wife of 62 years: Ola Lee (Currie) Coons of Rockwall, TX; daughter: Lynda Ehlers and husband Charles of Quinlan, TX; and grandsons: Jonathan Ehlers of Richardson, TX, and Travis Ehlers of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his son: Edward Coons; brother: Ray Coons; and his parents.

A celebration of Williams’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 23, 2019, at United Methodist Temple, 4101 TX-73, Port Arthur, TX 77642. A remembrance gathering will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, November 14, 2019, at The Gathering at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Location.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the United Methodist Children’s Home in Waco, TX.
