On Thursday, April 9th, 2020, Mary Beth White, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend passed away at the age of 92. she was born December 1st, 1927, in San Angelo, TX to John Lewis Baker and Ellis Allison Baker. Mary Beth was a member of the First Christian Church of Rockwall where she was made the first female elder of the Church.
Mary Beth is survived by her children Susie Haas and her husband Jeff of Sonoma, CA, daughter Bitsy Broughton of Lake Oswego, OR; son John White and his wife Cynthia of Holly Lake Ranch Texas; unofficial daughter Rocky Littlefield, grandchildren Lauren Hughey, Lacey Hughey, Ashley Ezaki (Pascal), Allison Hughey, Bailey White, Jack White, Mathew Callesen (Cristy) and Jeffery Haas. She was preceded in death by her husband Ted.
Mary Beth was a remarkable woman who donated much time to others through her long association with the Disciples of Christ denomination. She was officially ordained as a licensed Lay Minister of Cypress Creek Christian Church in Spring, TX. In the late eighties, she was named Houston’s Woman of the Year for her incredible role in helping battered women.
Mary Beth attended San Angelo College and Texas Tech. She was introduced to her husband Ted of 56 years, on a blind date where they later went dancing. Dancing played an important part in her life. She loved to sew, knit and was known for knitting prayer shawls for infirm adults and children. She taught many Bible Studies and was a leader at her church.
Funeral services will be held at the First Christian Church of Rockwall at a later date. Memorials in honor of Mary Beth may also be made to Week of Compassion Fund care of First Christian Church of Rockwall. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Ted at Rest Haven Memorial Park.
