Rockwall Bites – Wells Cattle Co. Burger and Fries

Short Version:

This place has solid options for burgers and hot dogs. They offer great sides, with quality ingredients. You can customize just about anything, and the beef is raised on a farm owned by the same person who owns the Restaurant, so you are getting farm to table beef. The offer pies, and other stuff. You can’t go wrong, but you do pay a bit more than your average burger spot.

Long Version:

Okay folks, this place has been voted as the best burger in Rockwall Tx for a few years, I think since they have opened. So, that’s an impressive accomplishment all on its own. When you pull up, you see what looks like an old farmhouse that has been converted to a restaurant. It is on the outer ring of the downtown Rockwall restaurants, so you can walk from anywhere in the downtown area. There is parking on site as it holds about 15 cars so you shouldn’t need to park elsewhere, but if you are out and about doing some downtown shopping, there is no need to move your car since it’s a quick walk.

When you walk in, you are immediately in one of the dining areas. You will need to walk to the center of the building, where the register is. Though, it is pretty clear that’s what is needed since as you walk in you can see the menu illuminated on the wall ahead, up near the ceiling. There is another dining room past the register, so the menu board is set high enough for a door to be under it to ender the next room.

Placed around the register and along the little areas walls you have a few options for some branded swag. You will find things like shirts and hats to choose from.  On this visit I did opt to buy a hat. It’s another hobby of mine. I am a sucker for a hat that supports small businesses. So, if you happen to own your own business and have a hat, I would love the opportunity to sport your lid!

Okay, now back on track here. On our visit I only noticed three other people come and go during the whole visit.  We arrived around 1:pm on a weekday. We were there about an hour. My daughter came with me, and we just sat and chatted the whole time. I try to find time for time to hang out with my daughter. It is one of the many perks of being a stay-at-home dad. Well, that term is misleading as I do work, but I just do it from home. More on that another time, but needless to say, we really enjoyed our visit. It is great when we can do these at local places that we both enjoy

Okay, so sorry, back on track. I swear, that’s the last time!

We both got the same thing, Wells Beef Burger, with Cheese and side of fries and a drink. Ill break down the food, and our thoughts below After you place your order, you get one of those pager things to take to your table. We only waited maybe 15 minutes from the time we ordered until the time our food was at our table.

Wells Beef Burger $9.50 – No description on the menu but I found this on their website: (1/3 lb beef, LTPO, Mayo and Mustard), Add Cheese (Pepperjack) $1

Fries and a Drink $5

They use a branding iron to place their logo on the top bun. So, when the burger is delivered to your table it has a bit of completion that feels like you’re not eating at home. Well, unless you have one of those branding irons, I guess…  It just looks nice but doesn’t alter the flavor. The beef patty is tender and not overworked so it has a great mouth feel. That sounds odd when talking about a burger, but it doesn’t feel like a bunch of mush in your mouth. You get the crisp lettuce, the ripe tomatoes, and the seasoned beef. Each is clear and clean on the flavors and it’s dressed well. The fries are very well-seasoned and plentiful. They were undercooked for my liking, but fresh-cut fries tend to be that way. You know what I mean, limp and soft. I am a crisp fry guy, so I prefer twice-cooked fries or even ones that are tossed with a bit of cornstarch and flour for that nice crunch on the outside. But all in all, for homemade fries, these are great. The seasoning is plentiful also, and that is always a huge thing for me.

Some special mentions are that I noticed the menu offers many options. They have over fifteen menu items that are different burger options like PB&J and Keto burgers. They even offer more than 15 different hotdog options and a couple that stuck out to me were the Pimento Cheese dog and the Brunch Dog. But I bet they are all amazing. There are pies and cakes, and yes, they do offer a kid’s menu where your twelve and under can get a burger, fries, and a drink for $6.50, and in today’s economy that’s a great deal.

Also, they do offer Sterling Tea. That is pretty cool as Sterling Tea is another local company that prides itself on high-quality products. If you like tea, make sure to check them out. I have had the opportunity to meet the proprietors of Sterling a couple of times while just out and about and such nice people. I love seeing local businesses to collaborations like this and work together!

Alright, well, I hope this has shed a light for those who haven’t been, and I look forward to sharing my next experience. Thank you as always for hanging out through this whole thing, I hope you enjoyed it.
