On Thursday, September 1, 2022 at approximately 6:50pm, the Rockwall Police Department conducted a welfare check at the request of the Fort Worth Police Department in the 300 block of Summerhill Drive in Rockwall. Officers were notified that the subject tied to the welfare check was possibly involved in a kidnapping.

At approximately 7:30pm, the Dallas Police Department notified the Rockwall Police Department that a stabbing had occurred and that two children were possibly taken from that scene. The suspect of that incident was identified as the same suspect in the alleged kidnapping in the city of Fort Worth.

Officers from Rockwall located and attempted to contact the suspect outside of a residence at 8:20pm. The suspect exchanged gunfire with officers and was struck. He was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

No officers were injured during the encounter.

The children who were reportedly taken from the Dallas incident were found safe in a neighboring area. The subject is identified as 31 year-old Jonathan May. The shooting is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
