Lanny Kent Gatlin passed away peacefully at the age of 86 at his home in Dallas TX on July 12, 2022. Lanny was born November 17, 1935, to parents Andrew Lee Gatlin and Mary Ellen (Grant) Gatlin. Born and raised in Whitney, TX; Lanny always had an entrepreneurial spirit and loved Stock Car Racing. He served in the US Airforce and went on to be a successful businessman where he owned his own used car dealership. He was a very hardworking man and devoted his time to helping people. Lanny raised his family in Pleasant Grove. He was a passionate family loving man who was always surrounded by family and friends. He mentored his son and grandsons at the recreation of Stock Car Racing and loved to watch them race. He sponsored many racers in Crandall, Super Bowl Speedway, Devils Bowl, and also sponsored youth sports. On the weekends you would always see Lanny at the Devils Bowl Speedway or Super Bowl Speedway. Lanny will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Lanny is survived by his daughters: Dana Gatlin Aubrey and husband Milton, Shellye Brown and husband William, Kim Gatlin Martin and husband Paul; daughter-in-law: Donna Gatlin; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; 3 brothers, 4 sisters, daughter: Vicki Gatlin; son: Steve Gatlin; and grandson: Josh Jordan.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Reflections at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall location. Interment will follow at 2:00pm in County Line Cemetery in Athens, TX. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, at The Gathering at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall location.
