Maria J. Castilleja, age 82 of Garland, TX, passed away January 5, 2022. She was born June 24, 1939, in Mexico to Juan and Cirila (Ortega) Castillo. Maria was married to Jose Nemecio Castilleja on September 20, 1956, in Mexico. They shared 65 wonderful years and had 11 children. Maria was a loving wife and mother and a faithful member of the Catholic Church. She liked to pray the rosary and attend Catholic retreats. Maria enjoyed family gatherings and made very delicious meals. She touched the lives of so many and her presence will be deeply missed.
Maria is survived by her loving husband: Jose Castilleja; children: Herbert and Guadalupe Castilleja, Ruben Castilleja and Sandra Ortiz, Jaime Castilleja, Olivia Castilleja and Mario Hernandez, Martin Castilleja and Olivia Quezada, Gerardo Castilleja, Martha and Arturo Serrano, Blanca Alicia Castilleja and Ruben Olalde, Maximo Castilleja and Angelica Vaca, Minerva Castilleja and Pedro Silva; son-in-law: Jaime Flores; grandchildren: Marlene, Danna, Herbert, Ruben, Daniel, Juliana, Judith, Victor, Janeth, Angel, Mario, Cesar, Karina, Maritza, Idalia, Sonia, Junior, Mayra, Lorena, Martha, Jesus, Enrique, Vanessa, Lizeth, Fernando, Camila, Jair, and Saul; and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved daughter Idalia.
Funeral mass will be held 10:00 am Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rowlett Chapel with Deacon Andy Pena officiating. Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery will follow. There will be a gathering of family and friends at Rest Haven Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 with a rosary at 7:00 pm.
