Lawan Horton Townsend, 85, of Rockwall, Texas, passed from this life on January 26, 2022. Lawan was born in Atlanta, Texas, to Travis Denton Horton and Grace Inez Jones Horton, on January 18, 1937.
Lawan loved classical music, hymns, playing the piano, singing, spending time with friends, sewing, collecting old hymnals, tennis, pilates, cooking for other people, being a church choir director, and volunteering. She loved to laugh, eat good food, travel, sing in the choir, and spend time with family.
Lawan is survived by her daughter: Mary Margaret Worley and husband David; and grandchildren: Ben Worley, Anna Worley, and Daniel Worley. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 55 years, William “Bill” Townsend; sister: Jane Wells; and her parents, Travis and Grace Horton.
A gathering of friends and loved ones to celebrate Lawan’s life is to be held on Sunday, February 6, 2022, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall location. Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022, beginning at 10:00 AM, in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Rockwall, Texas.
