Surgeon, world renowned pool player identified as victims in Rockwall plane crash

Dr. Donald Lee Wehmeyer, 75, and his passenger, Curtis Grady Robertson, 64, both of Abilene, have been identified as the two victims of the fatal plane crash on Thursday.

According to Flight Aware, the plane took off from Abilene at 11:39 a.m.

The FAA said in its preliminary crash report that the Cessna 182 struck a power line and crashed in a field near Highway 66 and John King Boulevard.

The Cessna 182 crashed nose first in a field across Highway 66 from Ralph M. Hall Municipal Airport.

According to his obituary, Wehmeyer was a hand surgeon in Abilene and had his own practice for 38 years until he retired in May 2018.

Wehymeyer also served his country at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene as a general surgeon from 1975 to 1977.

According to his obituary, Robertson started Underwater Connection in 1984 which eventually became Abilene Sports Connection.

Robertson was a certified scuba driver and was ranked 5th in the world in Artistic Pool (trick shots on the pool table) when he retired.
