Donna (Slade) Garner, age 62, of Garland, Texas, passed away on May 4, 2020. She was born December 19, 1957, in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, to Donald LaVerne Slade and Nancy Lee (Backus) Slade. Donna was a loving wife, mother, Grams, sister, and friend and will be deeply missed by everyone who loved her.

Donna was a born caregiver with a generous and selfless heart, which directed her career first into caring for the elderly and later to caring for children. Her ability to nurture and unconditionally love others were her finest gifts. Even in her later years, as her own health began to fail, her joy and zest for living was never diminished. With each new obstacle, she would simply smile and say “The Good Lord never gives you more than you can take.” Though she loved life and lived it to the fullest every day, she often spoke of being ready when the Lord called her home.

Donna’s proudest accomplishment was her family. She was a child at heart and it wasn’t unusual to see her, as a young mom, doing donuts in the backyard on a go-cart with her son or leading her daughter’s girl scout troop on camping trips and other adventures. When she was blessed with her first grandchild, she was overjoyed. Friday night sleepovers at Grams’ were Luke’s favorite. When her second grandchild came along, Donna was equally thrilled and although they only had a few short months together, Liam will be reminded of her love often. The unequivocal love she showered upon her children and grandchildren in this life is a testament of her heart and they will carry it with them always.

She is survived by her children: Phillip Ray Helton and wife Sabrina, and Cheryl LeeAnn Crooks and husband Chip; grandchildren: Lucas Ray Helton and Liam Greyson Helton; and siblings: Wanda Floyd and husband Larry, Ronnie Slade, Bobby Slade, Richard Slade and wife Betsy, and Bruce Slade and wife Molly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 21 years: William Garner; and her parents.

Although we mourn her death, we celebrate her life by emulating her spirit, spreading joy and positivity to all.

A private memorial service will be held at Rest Haven Funeral Home. Please contact the family for details.
