Doris B. Hansen Obituary

Doris Bagley Hansen, age 101, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 2, 2020. She was born March 21, 1919 in Caviness, Texas to Burlie B. and Maude Lee (Bird) Bagley. Doris exceled in school. Her senior year she lettered in basketball and led her class as Salutatorian. She met and married James Gilbert Smith on June 24, 1939, and were blessed with a daughter, Kaaren Michele, on June 6, 1942. World War II broke out and Jim was drafted. Doris and her infant daughter found themselves alone in Maine. Doris loaded up her Packard and she, her daughter Kaaren and sister Alene drove across the United States and moved to California. Doris was widowed in 1955. She went to work for Security First National Bank in Los Angeles as a bookkeeper. Through hard work and classes, she advanced through the ranks and in 1969 she became the second female officer in their history to become an Assistant Vice President. During this period, she met and married the Love of her Life, Wilhelm (Willie) Hansen on March 28, 1959. They had a wonderful life together visiting all 50 states and traveling throughout Canada. Doris was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, who was affectionately known as “Bamma”. Doris enjoyed cooking and baking delicious goodies always sent with love during Christmas Time. Doris enjoyed sewing, knitting and needlepoint, as her family could attest to receiving beautiful handmade sweaters and cross-stitched stockings cherished and hung on the hearth every Christmas. Doris was widowed after 30 years of a wonderful marriage and moved to Rockwall, Texas. She was a strong Christian woman who loved to read, with the Bible being her favorite book. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rockwall. She enjoyed mission trips, girl’s night out with her many dear friends from the Joy Club. Doris loved her family dearly and treasured the family get together and parties.

Doris is survived by her daughter: Kaaren Perry and husband Richard; grandchildren: Gina D’Elia, Nicole Dutton and husband Bill, Bob D’Elia and wife Lynda, Susan Sherwood and husband Brian, DeeDee Kirk, Kim Milliorn and husband Tim; great-grandchildren: Vincent and Isabella Lieberman, Liam Dutton, McKenzi, Madison, and Morgan D’Elia, Jack Sartain and wife Lindsy, Jason Sartain and wife Brook, Kevin Kirk and wife Rose, Alicia Kirk, Brad Perry and wife Blair, Brittany Carroll and husband Troy; great-great-grandchildren: Jayden and Hallie Sartain, Jason Jr. and Austin Sartain, Kevin, Roman, and Kasen Kirk, Breckin and Brielle Perry, and Jayci and Wyatt Carroll. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Willhelm; sisters Murrell, Frances, Alene, and Burlene; brother: Jack; and a host of nieces and nephews.

We were so very Blessed and Thankful to have Doris (Bamma) in our lives. She was a trailblazing, creative woman of grit, who is our Heart and Soul who shined with Love and Light. Doris will be missed immensely by all whose lives she touched.
