Royse City ISD has been honored with the 2020 Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. This is the second year in a for for RCISD to earn the distinction.
The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, RCISD answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities and support for the music programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
“I am so proud of our entire Fine Arts Family within Royse City ISD. This designation is very exciting and rewarding for our amazing Fine Arts Department. Fine Arts Director Doug Fulwood and his team have fostered tremendous growth in participation and built a thriving program. The Mighty Bulldog Band has more than doubled in size over the past 5 years. This is a testament to a strong program that is supported by great directors, involved families and talented students,” said Superintendent Kevin Worthy.
This award recognizes that RCISD is leading the way with learning opportunities as outlined in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The legislation guides implementation in the states and replaces the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) which was often criticized for an overemphasis on testing-while leaving behind subjects such as music. ESSA recommends music and the arts as important elements of a well-rounded education for all children.
