The City of Heath officials, staff and Department of Public Safety have been monitoring for several weeks the latest novel coronavirus development with diligence and the utmost concern for citizens, visitors and businesses.

Heath joins the Rockwall ISD and all Rockwall County Cities in working closely with the Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management to be prepared to meet this threat. City leaders have participated in meetings and calls, and will again participate in a countywide meeting on Monday, March 16 with Rockwall County Health Authority, Dr. Gary Bonacquisti.

Also on March 16, the City will join a conference call with Governor Abbott for a statewide update regarding latest information on what Texas is doing to prepare for and respond to the novel coronavirus.

“Our citizens can be assured that our leadership is staying on top of a situation that is evolving hourly in order to take any necessary actions regarding their safety and that of our city staff, DPS personnel and volunteers,” said Heath Mayor Kelson Elam.

“This is a time to work together to ensure the well being of our community, not a time to be fearful. The most important thing each person can do is follow CDC guidelines for keeping yourself and your family safe and healthy, and at worst case, be prepared for a 14-day self quarantine,” he said.

Mayor Elam noted that as of Thursday, March 12, there were no positive cases of COVID-19 in Rockwall County, and the immediate threat is low.

“If our threat level changes, it could change rapidly, and we will work with our state and local partners to provide citizens with accurate and timely information,” he said.
