More than 100 animals — dogs, cats and a bearded dragon — seized in Collin County cruelty bust

The Collin County sheriff’s office seized over 100 animals from a double-wide trailer home in the town of Nevada on Thursday, authorities said.

As part of an animal cruelty investigation, the sheriff’s office worked with the SPCA of Texas and Collin County animal services to remove dozens of animals from a rural property in the 17000 block of Sanjeev Lane, near County Road 593.

Authorities took the animals — dogs, cats and a bearded dragon — to the SPCA of Texas’ Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center. The animals will be medically evaluated and cared for until a civil hearing is held to determine who will take custody of them.

In a statement, Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner called the animals’ situation “reprehensible.”

“Yet, without the help and cooperation by our alert residents, we would not have been able to find and rescue these animals. I applaud and thank the SPCA of Texas for their quick response and invaluable assistance,” Skinner said in a media release.
