James C. McCrary passed away on September 10, 2022, in Rockwall, TX at the age of 101. Known as “JC” to his friends and “Papa” to his family, he was born in Bardwell, TX, in March of 1921 to Joe and Cassie McCrary and raised in nearby Ennis, TX. He served his country in the Navy during World War II, honorably discharged in 1945. He then began a long and rewarding career in the motion picture film industry, employed over the years at both the Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox Dallas film distribution offices. In the mid-70’s he founded his own independent film distribution company, JC McCrary & Assoc., where he worked until his retirement. His interests included boating, fishing, books, movies, music, and watching Dallas Cowboys football…but most of all he enjoyed just spending time with his loving family.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christine, his parents, and his brother, Bruce McCrary. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Scott McCrary, and daughter Sheila Eilers, grandchildren Matthew & Cameron McCrary and Leif & Meghan Eilers, as well as his great-grandchildren Phaedra & Althea.
A graveside service will take place at 11:15am Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, TX. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Monday, September 19, 2022, at The Gathering at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall location.
