David Aubrey Barr, loving husband, father, and Bop passed away on April 7, 2020, at the age of 68. He will be fondly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Diane (Holechek) Barr; children: Matthew Barr and wife Aubre, and Amanda (Barr) Routen and husband Greg; grandchildren: Cooper Barr, Kinsey Barr, Nathan Routen and Olivia Routen; and sister: Janis (Barr) Richards. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lorayne Barr.
David was born on March 22, 1952, in Austin, Texas to Robert and Lorayne (Goodner) Barr. He graduated from David Crockett High School in Austin before receiving his bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos in 1974. On June 9, 1979, he married Diane Holechek, and they raised two children, Matthew and Amanda. He later gained the loving title of “Bop” to four grandchildren who adored him and could always count on him for big hugs and lots of treats. David had been a resident of Rowlett, Texas, for 33 years and was a member at Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall.
He had a distinguished career in commercial real estate financing and bank examinations in Dallas, but his passion was spending time with his family. Whether coaching sports teams when his children were young, taking family vacations, or making special memories with his grandchildren whom he thought the world of, he loved to be around his family. He also enjoyed history, sports, books and trying new restaurants. He was known for his quick wit, jokes he told with a smirk on his face followed by a big laugh, and his kind and gentle spirit.
Memorial services will be held but are pending for a later date.
