Franklin Edwin Mattson, 79, a resident at the Christian Care Center in Mesquite, Texas, passed away on March 27, 2020. Franklin was born on November 14, 1940, to Edwin Matt Mattson and Alice (Anderson) Mattson, in Bridgeton, New Jersey. Franklin graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1959 and Rutgers University in 1963. He worked as a lab technician at Shell Research and Development in Woodbury, N.J. He was transferred by Shell to Houston, TX in 1975. He was in the New Jersey Army National Guard for two years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was younger.
As he aged, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. One of his favorite things to do was socializing. If you had an ear, he would tell you all about his life. He smiled easily and always wanted to share his snacks with family and friends.
Franklin was married to Margot (Anderson) Mattson for 51 years. He had been living at the Christian Care Center for five years. He would help take care of his friends even though he sometimes was the one who needed the care. He enjoyed social events and loved to play bingo.
Survivors include his wife, Margot (Anderson) Mattson; daughters: Lisa Niemeyer and husband Ryan Niemeyer, and Lynn Lieberman; grandchildren: Robert Lieberman, Holly Niemeyer, and Addison Niemeyer; and brother, Ronald Mattson and wife Rose Marie Mattson; and cousin Richard Bernarde residing in Oakland, N.J. He is preceded in death by his parents and four cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate Franklin’s life will be held at a later date.
