Rockwall & Kaufman, Texas – June 2026 – During National Reunification Month, Lone Star CASA is proud to recognize the strength of families who overcome challenges to safely reunite and the dedicated volunteer advocates who support them along the way.
Ryan’s journey began at birth when he entered foster care after testing positive for drugs. Despite a difficult start, he was placed with a loving foster family who provided the care, stability, and nurturing environment he needed during his earliest months.
Soon after Ryan entered care, a Lone Star CASA Volunteer Advocate met with him and his parents during one of their first family visits. While Ryan’s mother faced significant obstacles, including limited support and a history of personal hardship, she remained committed to making the changes necessary to create a safe and stable home for her son.
Throughout the case, the volunteer advocate focused not only on Ryan’s immediate needs but also on building relationships with his parents to better understand their strengths, challenges, and goals. Through consistent communication and support, the CASA Volunteer Advocate became a trusted presence in the family’s reunification journey.
Determined to reunify with her son, Ryan’s mother secured employment and entered a supportive housing program that provided stability, resources, and a pathway toward permanent housing. The program offered a safe environment while helping her prepare for long-term success as a parent.
Meanwhile, the volunteer advocate closely monitored Ryan’s well-being, advocated for his best interests, and provided the court with regular updates regarding his progress and the family’s efforts. After six months, the court determined that Ryan could safely return to his mother’s care.
Even after reunification, Lone Star CASA remained involved, continuing to monitor Ryan’s adjustment and ensure his needs were being met. Following three additional months of successful transition and family stability, the court dismissed the case, allowing Ryan to remain safely at home with his mother.
Today, Ryan is thriving with his family.
“Ryan’s story demonstrates the power of perseverance, support, and advocacy,” said Jacob Griffin, Executive Director of Lone Star CASA. “When families are provided with the resources and encouragement they need, reunification can be successful, and children can grow up in safe, loving homes.”
Lone Star CASA advocates for children and youth who have experienced abuse and neglect in Kaufman and Rockwall counties. CASA Volunteer Advocates serve as the eyes and ears of the court, ensuring each child’s best interests remain at the center of every decision. In many cases, that means supporting safe reunification efforts and helping families access the resources necessary to succeed.
National Reunification Month is observed each June to recognize the families, child welfare professionals, foster families, volunteers, and community partners who work together to reunite children with their families whenever it is safe and appropriate to do so.
Ryan’s story serves as a reminder that reunification is often possible when families receive the support they need and children have dedicated advocates by their side.
