Ruby “Allene” Phelps, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by love on September 17, 2022, in Madison, AL. She was born August 28, 1929, in Pampa, TX, to Osa Lillian (Crambrink) and Robert Charles Rogers. Allene was married to her husband John Doran “JD” Phelps on April 2, 1948. She was a faithful and loving wife and never remarried after his passing in 1988. Allene and JD moved to Anchorage, AK, in the late 1950s where they became local icons as the owners of JD’s’ BBQ Pit. While in Alaska, she and her family were baptized in Lake Spenard on a chilly September day in the mid 1960s. In 1975, Allene and JD retired from the restaurant business and moved to Stratford, OK, where she resided until 2018. Allene enjoyed traveling, watching western movies and listening to old country music. She loved anything and everything John Wayne, and wearing her cowboy boots and jeans. She was quick-witted, fun-loving, and enjoyed a good laugh. Her uplifting personality brightened any room she entered. Allene was always taking care of people, she had a true Mother’s Heart and you always felt safe when she was around. She and JD cared for, mentored, opened their home and helped shape many lives over the years. Her family was most important to her, she loved them fiercely, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Allene is survived by her children: John Doran Phelps, Jr., Deborah Sue Phelps, Rock Edward Phelps and wife Sheri, Peggy Jo Tiemann and husband Randy, Deon Phelps and Nolan; grandchildren: John Doran Phelps III, Jody Dawn Hottle, Jack Wyatt Phelps II, Amber Allene Walls, Rock Edward Phelps II, Christopher Cole Tiemann, and Cody Ryan Tiemann; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one great-great-great- grandchild. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband: JD Phelps, Sr.; her parents; and siblings: Dick, Geneva, Charles, Maxine, Harry, Leo, and Tommy.
A graveside service will be held 1:00pm Friday, September 23, 2022, at Rockwall Memorial Cemetery in Rockwall, TX.
