Alex Melvin Harris, Jr., also known as “Hoot”, of Rowlett TX, peacefully went to his eternal home on April 1, 2022. He was born May 8, 1931, in Sanford, NC. He began his military career at the age of 17, joining the US Navy. His military career included two tours of duty in Korea, one with the 1st Marine Division as a hospital corpsman during the Korean War. He retired from active duty after 21 1/2 years of honorable service with the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He will be missed deeply by those who knew and loved him.
Alex is survived by his loving wife of 69 years: Mary Harris. He is also survived by his five children and their families: Mike and Kim Harris, Donna and Ray Dillahunty, Susan and John Quisenberry, Joy Romo, Janet and Karl McCausey; 18 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law: Vince Romo; brother: Jack; and sister: Dorothy.
A celebration of Alex’s life will be held at 1:00pm on April 22, 2022, at Reflections, Resthaven Funeral Home (Rockwall location), with Pastor Brad Howard officiating.
