Royse City Police Officer struck, injured on I-30

On Saturday, April 10, 2021 at approximately 9:55 AM, Royse City Police Officer Michael Baley was helping a stranded motorist in the 200 Block of Westbound IH30 when he was struck by a vehicle. Officer Baley was out of his patrol car and in the grassy median when he was struck by a vehicle that lost control and left the roadway. Officer Baley was taken by ambulance to Baylor Hospital in Dallas with minor injuries. He was treated and later released. Troopers with Texas Department of Public Safety are handling the accident investigation. The cause of the accident has not been determined but driver inattention and speed are possible factors.

State law requires motorists to slow down or vacate the lane when passing an emergency vehicle with it’s emergency light on. This accident should serve as a reminder to everyone to pay attention and slow down when you see a police officer or emergency personnel working on the side of the road. Our officers are out there to serve their community and doing the best job they can do to keep you safe. When you see them working on the road or Interstate, please slow down, move over and pay attention. We are extremely lucky and blessed that this incident did not result in a serious injury or worse.
