Local students received new technology and school supplies Aug. 4 during a community distribution event at Cornerstone Church in Rockwall.
AT&T and Compudopt provided the Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County with 100 refurbished laptops and backpacks filled with school supplies for distribution to Rockwall students in need. Cornerstone Church provided the space for the event.
Texas State Representative Katrina Pierson organized this collaboration and event and was there to distribute the laptops and backpacks to local families.
“Access to technology is essential for student success, and I’m proud to see AT&T, Compudopt, and the Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County come together to support local families as the new school year begins,” Pierson said. “By providing 100 local families with laptops and backpacks, this effort helps ensure more young people in our community have the tools they need to learn, grow, and thrive both in and out of the classroom.”
The event was part of AT&T’s Connected Dallas Tour, a series of community laptop distribution events aimed at bringing technology resources to students and families across Texas.
“AT&T is honored to help students access the tools and connectivity they need to learn, grow and succeed,” said Lisa Sherrod, assistant vice president of AT&T External and Legislative Affairs. “Through our ongoing AT&T Connected Dallas Tour, and alongside organizations like Compudopt and the Children’s Advocacy Center, we’re proud to provide laptops and backpacks that help students start the school year prepared and connected.”
According to AT&T, the effort is part of the company’s broader initiative to address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. The company has committed $5 billion toward helping 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030.
The Aug. 4 event brought that initiative directly to Rockwall, providing 100 local families with technology and school supplies as students prepare for the new school year.
