Rockwall Voices Op-Ed
By Citizens for Responsible Government – Fate
Civic engagement is a cornerstone of local democracy, and the City of Fate Charter provides residents with structured, lawful tools to participate in local governance. One such tool is the recall process, which exists to allow voters—not individuals or institutions—to ultimately decide questions of representation.
On January 5, 2026, a recall petition was formally issued regarding Fate City Councilwoman Codi Chinn, Place 1. The issuance of a recall petition does not remove an elected official from office, nor does it presume any outcome. Its sole purpose is to determine whether sufficient voter interest exists to place a recall question on the May 2, 2026 ballot, as provided for in the city charter.
If the required number of valid signatures from registered Fate voters is gathered and certified, the ballot would present voters with a clear choice: whether to remove the council member through recall or allow her to complete the remainder of her term. This process includes established safeguards and verification steps designed to ensure fairness, accuracy, and transparency for all parties involved.
Signing a recall petition is not a vote for or against removal. Rather, it is an expression of support for allowing the broader electorate to consider the question. Residents may hold differing views, and the recall framework respects those differences by placing the final decision in the hands of voters.
Eligible registered voters residing within the city limits of Fate who wish to learn more about the petition process or signing opportunities may contact the organizers at recallcodi@yahoo.com. Information regarding dates, times, and locations will be shared as it becomes available.
Active and respectful participation in civic processes strengthens local government and community trust. The Fate City Charter entrusts voters with this responsibility, and it is through informed engagement that local democracy functions best. Political ad by Citizens for Responsible Government – Fate.
