Rockwall, TX-May 15, 2025 – Law enforcement agencies across Rockwall County gathered on the morning of May 15 to honor the valiant officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The Police Officer Memorial Commemoration, held at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Rockwall, served as a poignant reminder of their bravery.

Chief Kirk Aldridge of the Royse City Police Department welcomed everyone and highlighted how National Police Week is dedicated to recognizing those who courageously laid down their lives for the safety and protection of others.
In 2024, a tragic total of 165 federal, state, county, municipal, military, tribal, and campus officers were lost in the line of duty, compared to 157 in 2023. This year has already seen 25 line-of-duty deaths, including four in Texas, underscoring the dedication and risks faced by these heroes.
The ceremony began with a prayer by Chaplain Brad Bassett from the Rockwall Police Department. The combined Honor Guard from the Royse City Police Department and the Rockwall Sheriff’s Office then presented colors, followed by attendees reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Rockwall County Judge Frank New, Sheriff Terry Garrett, and Felicia Oliphant from the District Attorney’s Office expressed deep pride and admiration for all law enforcement officers and support staff, commending their unwavering commitment to serve and protect the citizens of the county.

As each fallen officer’s name was read, a single bell tolled in honor. Charles Aldridge played “Taps,” and the ceremony concluded with a powerful prayer for the continued safety of all officers and strength for their families.
