Rockwall, TX – December 2, 2024 – The Republican Party of Rockwall County (RPRC) has issued an official statement of support for Senate Bill 1 (SB1), Texas’ proposed budget for the 2026–2027 biennium. The bill, which passed the Texas Senate, is currently being considered in the Texas House for a vote this week.
While acknowledging the bill is not perfect, RPRC emphasized the importance of supporting SB1 to ensure critical funding reaches key priorities in Rockwall County and across the state.
“There is a lot in the bill we may not like, but there is even more in it that Texans need,” the statement reads. “After an open and respectful dialogue with Representative Katrina Pierson, the Executive Committee encourages her and others to support this important piece of legislation.”
According to the resolution, SB1 delivers funding aligned with key Republican priorities, including:
- Border security
- Law enforcement training and equipment
- A new trooper recruit school
- Public education and school safety
- Property tax relief
- Mental health services
- Veteran and first responder support
- Pro-life initiatives
The resolution also highlights funding that would directly benefit Rockwall County and could be jeopardized without the bill’s passage.
Despite their support, RPRC expressed concern over certain elements of the budget—including allocations for higher education research and the potential for government overreach. The organization called for vigilant oversight to ensure fiscal responsibility and stewardship of taxpayer funds.
“We reaffirm that responsible legislation requires supporting a strong, fiscally sound budget—even though it may not be perfect in every provision,” said the committee.
