Rockwall, TX – April 14, 2025 – In honor of April being Child Abuse Prevention Month, Honorable Judge Brett Hall officially swore in ten new volunteers during a ceremony held at the Rockwall County Courthouse on Monday. Lone Star CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is proud to welcome the newest CASA volunteers to serve children who have experienced abuse and neglect in Rockwall and Kaufman Counties.

As Child Abuse Prevention Month raises awareness about the importance of protecting children, these committed volunteers will join Lone Star CASA’s mission to advocate for children and families in the foster care system. They will work tirelessly to ensure children’s voices are heard and that their needs are met during their journey through the legal system.

“These volunteers are stepping into an important role at a pivotal time, as we focus on preventing child abuse and ensuring that every child in our community has a chance to thrive,” said Barbara Henderson, Volunteer Specialist at Lone Star CASA. “I am confident that they will bring compassion, dedication, and a strong commitment to helping the children they serve.”

The new CASA volunteers will each be assigned to a child or sibling group, where they will advocate for the child’s wellbeing and help navigate the complexities of the foster care system. They will work closely with parents, foster families, teachers, doctors, therapists, and other key figures in the child’s life to ensure their safety and stability.

CASA volunteers undergo an in-depth 30-hour training program before being appointed to a case by a judge. They advocate for children by providing the court with insightful recommendations about the child’s best interests, whether advocating for reunification with their family, placing the child with relatives, or ensuring the child is adopted into a permanent home.

This year alone, the number of children served by Lone Star CASA has increased by 34% — and with that growth comes a greater need for passionate, committed volunteers.

CASA volunteers play a critical role in the lives of children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Their dedication helps ensure that these children not only find safety and stability but also the opportunity to thrive.

By becoming a CASA volunteer, you can be the consistent, caring adult a child needs to navigate the challenges ahead and build a brighter future.
