Maurice (Maurie) Francis Hurst II, 77, of Rockwall, Texas, passed away on July 3, 2022. Maurie was born in Omaha, Nebraska, to Maurice Francis Hurst and Mary Agatha (Banks) Hurst, on October 24, 1944.
Raised in Omaha, Nebraska, he attended Holy Cross School, where he enjoyed playing football. As a teenager he worked in the stock yards and volunteered at “Boy’s Town”, a non-profit organization that cared for boys in need.
In 1963, at the age of 18, Maurie moved with his family to Reseda, California. On February 2, 1966, while driving down the Ventura Freeway with his cousin Tommy, who was visiting from Michigan, Maurie spotted a beautiful brunette in a Silver-Blue Oldsmobile. Never expecting that this chance meeting would lead him to his future bride, he followed her home. Eight months later, on October 1, 1966, Maurie married that beautiful brunette, Diane Davis. They were married for 55 years, 9 months and 2 days.
On October 26, 1969 they welcomed their first daughter, Richele Mae. Two years later on December 16, 1971, they were blessed with their second daughter, Michele Rae.
Maurie went to work for the Automobile Club of Southern California in October of 1971, where he spent the next 34 years in various assignments. He retired in December of 2005 as the Administrator of Public Affairs. Maurie enjoyed spending time with his family, along with fishing, boating, camping, cooking and being a Grandpa. In 2007, Maurie and Diane moved to Texas after both daughters and their families re-located there the previous year.
Maurie is survived by his loving wife, Diane Dee (Davis) Hurst; daughters: Richele Conner and husband Tim, Michele Donaldson and husband John; grandchildren: Megan Conner, Jack Conner, Laura Tidwell and husband Travis, Cole Donaldson and wife Sarah, Olivia Donaldson, Travis Donaldson; and great-grandchildren: Violet Tidwell, Reed Tidwell, Scarlet Tidwell, Ryder Donaldson.
