Gary Bruce Humphrey went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2022. Gary was born in Corona, California, to Raymond and Margie Humphrey. His father’s naval career took the family from California to Hawaii, and finally to Hot Springs, Arkansas where Gary spent an idyllic childhood exploring the surrounding mountains, forests, and lakes. It was on a campout that Gary responded to a youth pastor’s invitation to dedicate his life to Christ. Gary graduated from Central High School in Hot Springs and attended Ouachita Baptist University. The same youth pastor who introduced Gary to Jesus also introduced him to Marilyn Gann, who would become his wife. Married in 1973, they moved to Rockwall, Texas in 1979 and raised two daughters, Amanda Kate and Sarah Beth. His life’s work was in sales, first with W.R. Case and Sons Cutlery and later as regional sales manager for MasterLock. He enjoyed professional success due to his relationship-building skills and genuine love for people. Gary was actively involved in several churches in Rockwall, participating in ministry to youth and young adults. He had the gift of hospitality and the Humphrey house was always open for ministry opportunities and fellowship. He was happiest when there wasn’t an empty place at the table or an unfilled seat in the car. He coached both daughters’ softball teams and took the girls and their friends on countless camping trips and vacations. His biggest regret in life was that his illness prevented him from sharing outdoor adventures with his grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 49 years: Marilyn Humphrey; daughter: Sarah Beth and husband Zach Simons; son-in-law: Camden Jones; and grandchildren: Wyatt and Austin Simons and Nash and Lyle Jane Jones. Additional family members remaining are his brother Lloyd Humphrey and wife Patsy; brother: Ray Humphrey and wife Jerry; sister: Barbara Humphrey; sister-in-law: Judy Humphrey, and nieces: Angela Kennedy and Laura Ann Moore. Gary is preceded in death by his parents: Raymond and Margie Humphrey; brother: Basil Humphrey; and he joyfully joins his daughter, Amanda in the presence of Jesus, their savior and Lord.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held 2:00pm Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Reflections at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall location. The family will receive friends and family from 1:00pm to 2:00pm prior to the service at The Gathering at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall location.
